FAQ

  • Where is the store based?

    La Mirada, CA

  • Do you accept orders placed outside of the US?

We sure do! However, due to limitations on USPS tracking, we must register a package OR ship by Priority International, both of which can be pricey, hence our international shipping rates. Sorry, but this cannot be helped.

  • How long will it take to receive my order?

We reserve a span of up to 5 days to ship an in-stock order after it has been placed and paid for thru PayPal. Credit card orders may take a few extra days to confirm payment. We have day jobs, and cannot get to the Post Office every day, but we're usually able to ship within 2-3 days. Once shipped, most domestic orders take anywhere from 2 to 10 business days to arrive, depending on the efficiency of your local postal service. International shipping delivery times may vary between 2 and 12 weeks. Also keep in mind that any set(s) up for preorder or "made to order" has a window of shipping, as stated in the item listing.

  • Can I cancel an order that hasn't shipped?

Yes and no. You may cancel an in-stock order before it ships, but preorders can only be cancelled through the intitial open perorder period. Once a preorder period closes, an order cannot be cancelled. Any refund may be less any non-refundable fees we have incurred from Storenvey, Stripe, PayPal, or similar financial services. We reserve the right to refuse future service to anyone who makes frequent or nuisance orders and cancellations.

  • What if there are pieces missing from my set?

We have a very stringent quality control process, but at the end of the day, we are human, and mistakes can happen. If you should find that your ordered set has any missing parts, please contact us as soon as possible and let us know. Please give us detailed descriptions of the part(s) - utilizing descriptions from the parts list, if possible - and which steps in the instructions these parts are added. We will rush these parts out to you right away.

  • Do you work for or have permission from Lego, Hasbro, etc.?

No. We are simply fans of the properties our products are based on, and have over 40 years of experience with Lego and compatible products. We offer our custom sets on a small-scale, "boutique" basis as a premium collectible from one fan to another, "in the style of" existing toys or characters. No copyright infringement is intended.

  • Can I buy your products in person?

We currently do not have a physical storefront, but we occasionally attend conventions, usually in the greater Los Angeles area. To stay abreast of our public appearances, please follow us at Twitter or Facebook.

  • Please make me a (specific toy or character)!

While we are not currently fielding commissions or requests, we do like to hear from customers with things they'd like to see. You never know - it may steer us in a certain direction. Be sure to interact with us at Twitter or Facebook, and relay your suggestions!

  • What exactly do I get when I buy one of your products?

With each original custom brick set you buy from us, you get every part necessary to build the set in one or more resealable plastic bags, as well as a CD with an introductory letter, a parts list, and pictorial instructions on how to build the set, presented as a series of jpg images. Following the series of jpgs is similar to leafing through an instruction booklet of a commercially-available brick set. If you purchase two or more sets, all of the instructions will be burned onto one CD. Our decision to maintain this "minimalist" presentation owes to our belief that raising prices to accommodate more sophisticated packaging is simply not worth it, especially considering that most folks throw the packaging out anyway.

  • Are your sets 100% new Lego parts?

No. Just want to give the Lego purists a heads-up here. Although we do use new Lego parts for the vast majority of the parts included in each set, there can often be roughly 10-25% non-Lego parts used, usually Kreo or Mega Bloks/Construx. These parts are usually "clones" of equivalent Lego parts, and their use should not affect the look or functionality of the design. Sometimes, occasional non-Lego parts are used because they are special parts that Lego does not make, and are crucial to the look or functionality of the set. Also, sometimes good-condition used parts are employed, because they are crucial to the design of the set, but are "vintage" parts that haven't been made by Lego in years, or even decades, and as such, are either impossible or cost-prohibitive to obtain "new".

  • Are your sets safe for kids?

Yes. Being that they are based on Lego and Lego-compatible toy parts, they are, by default, safe for kids. However, some of the designs are intended for display by adult collectors, and may not withstand the vigor of a child's play.

  • What determines your pricing?

Geewunner sets are more expensive than what you might buy in a store. We ask folks to keep in mind that this is - notwithstanding photography help and other small efforts by family and loved ones - a "boutique", one-man operation: proprietor Austin designs the set, designs the instructions, shops for the parts, sorts the parts out, packages it up, and ships it out. This involves a lot of personal time, which, like a lot of people, is very valuable to him. Additionally, it involves his creativity; his art. Just like an artist at Artist's Alley, his skill should retain some value. Furthermore, some Lego parts are cheaper to obtain on the secondary market than others. A given set’s design may require more pricey parts than others. We’ve settled on prices (or more accurately, a rate of pricing) for the sets that make it worthwhile to put the time into creating and crafting them. If you look at places like Brickmania, which makes and sells military Lego kits, our sets are actually on the more affordable side, in comparison. We do occasionally have sales to move older or shelfwarmer product, so folks can keep an eye out for that. For the doubtful, we suggest trying a smaller set first, and go from there.

  • Do the sets come with the minifigures or diorama backgrounds seen in the "context" photos?

No. The minifigures and extensive diorama setups are employed to show how the set might be displayed. What you get with the set is pictured in the studio shots with blue backgrounds. If you are interested in figures, we have a host of them available in our store.

  • When will (my most wanted set) be restocked?

If there's a certain set you've been waiting to be restocked, please message us and let us know. We concentrate restock efforts on sets that sell better than others, with an aim to get to everything eventually. But if you let us know that you're waiting for a certain set, we can redirect efforts in that direction. The more information we have, the better we can serve you, so don't be shy! Going forward, we will be moving toward more of a "made-to-order" system. See our FAQ entry on that for more details.

  • I placed an order with both preorder sets and older, in-stock sets. Can I have the in-stock sets shipped now?

Sorry, no. Any orders containing one or more preorder items will ship out in its entirety once the preorder items are ready to ship. If you wish to preorder items, and have other in-stock items shipped immediately, we suggest placing two separate orders.

  • A set's listing states that it is "made to order". What does that mean?

Going forward, many out-of-stock sets will be made-to-order, which means that we produce a set only after you have placed the order, and ship within 60 days of the order placement. In most cases (maybe 90%?), the set(s) will likely ship within 30 days, but we ask for 60 to absorb any unforeseen complications in ordering rare or vintage parts for the order. Just as with preorders, if in-stock sets are placed in the same order with one or more made-to-order sets, the entire order will ship when the made-to-order set(s)is/are ready.

  • Do you sell parts or minifigures?

Yes. We do offer a number of Kreons here at the store, and even a few parts, but for the most part, we sell genuine Lego parts at our BrickLink store (store name: Geewunner Customs), and all non-Lego parts and figures (Kreo, Mega Construx/Bloks, other) at eBay, under the user name geewunner. Orders placed at two or more of these three venues qualify for combined shipping; we just ask that you contact us at, or preferably prior, to point of sale to let us know of your intentions.

  • How do I earn free sets?

Simple! When your cart of at least two sets totals over $50 (prior to shipping or additional fees), feel free to add a set from Level 1. Once you hit the $100 mark, you may then add a set from Level 2, and so on. These freebies are cumulative, so it's possible to earn as many as five free sets in an order! You may also disregard a certain level's free sets and instead choose an additional set from one of the lower levels in its place.

  • Are there limitations or restrictions on the free sets?

Yes. To earn the free sets, one must purchase two or more full brick sets (other non-set product may then be added to count toward each goal). While preorder sets do apply on an individual basis, "all-in" packages with benefits such as free shipping or exclusive sets or add-ons do not. Free sets that are added to an order, but have not been fully earned based on our established criteria, will be disregarded. The "trigger" totals are RAW totals, PRIOR to taxes, fees (including Storenvy's fees), shipping, etc. Feel free to contact us if you have questions about your specific order prior to placing it. Sets offered as freebies are solely at our discretion, and may come and go depending on availability and our whim. While we currently see this as an ongoing promotion, we reserve the right to end it at any time.

  • Why the name "Geewunner"?

For those unfamiliar, "geewunner" is a term from Transformers fandom. It's a term used (sometimes derisively) to describe fans of the original, 80s era of Transformers. Austin once had a blog and podcast that covered Transformers, specifically that era, so he used the term. When he abandoned that effort, and started making custom Lego sets, Austin decided to keep using the domain name, rolling everything over. Considering that the lion's share of the brand's business is paying homage to G.I. Joe (a brother property to Transformers), the name has recognition with crossover fans, and the "G1" logo sort of looks like the "G.I." in G.I. Joe. Make sense?

  • What is Storenvy?

This store is created with Storenvy, an online store builder and marketplace for inspired brands. As a shopper, you can discover and buy items from multiple stores from all over the world and check out in one step at or open your own store for free.

  • How do I pay for my order? Is it secure?

The Storenvy checkout process is powered by both Stripe and PayPal, two of the most trusted online payment solutions on the web. Because of this, Storenvy has all the same securities and payment fraud protection as these leading payment processors. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express and Diners Club. If paying with PayPal, you may also make payments using your bank account, but this may delay your order.
